The american dream
The American Dream can be many things. As society grows, evolves and changes, so does the American Dream. Although the Dream is one of our biggest obstacles in life, we are the ones who create it
I stated the dictionary definition on my intro to this digital essay. Now, allow me to share with you my own definition on the subject of the American Dream
A·mer·i·can dream (noun) The American Dream is a manually fabricated ideal of how life is supposed to be. With every new generation, the expectations change. Therefore, no one can ever achieve the Dream.

american stereotypes
Now we must ask ourselves if any of this is true. I'm sure that some of it is, because stereotypes do have to come from somewhere. But is every American you ever meet exactly the way that people think they are? Probably not. Those traits do exist, but they don't define our country. However, as can be seen from this video, not all American Stereotypes are bad. Plenty of people think we're a country of fat idiots, and plenty of people appreciate the finer and more beautiful parts of American, such as our passion for the arts and how we speak our minds and don't hold back. But stereotypes aren't part of the American Dream. They are part of other people's American Dream's, people who don't even live here. Everyone has their own definition of the American Dream, and you don't have to live in America to have an opinion on the way we live. The fact is, that ugly side does exist; that loud, fat, rude and arrogant side of who we are is part of our existence as well as part of who we are. However, if we are judged simply on our negative side, that American Dream isn't fully formed. To have a complete opinion on the way we should live, one needs to know both sides of the story, and the beautiful side is just as important as the ugly.
what ever happened to the american dream?
The band MKTO is an American duo built up of Malcolm Kelley and Tony Oller. The song they are most famous for is known as "Classic". However, on April 8th, the two men released their single "The American Dream."
Lyrics:
(Do something with your life)
Ooh,
(With your life)
We broke down trying to leave town
Flying down the road to change
We were born to run, Cali here we come
Escape from nowhere USA
Say goodbye to white picket fences
Say hello to palm trees and Benzes
They say you gotta fall to have it all
Yeah
We don’t want two kids and a wife
I don’t want a job I just want a life
Sometimes the underdogs rise
And the mighty fall
This ain’t the same summer song that you used to know
‘Cause Jack left Diane thirty years ago
The world is spinning too fast for you and me
So tell me whatever happened to the American dream
I know a girl I met her last night
She was fresh off the plane
She whispered in my ear,
“Baby, come here. I’ll do anything to make a name.”
Honey, take my hand follow me ‘cause
I don’t wanna hurt you but he does
I just wanna give you some real advice
(Listen baby, mmm)
Look, never take candy from a stranger
And keep your eyes open for danger
‘Cause this right here is the twisted paradise
This ain’t the same summer song that you used to know
‘Cause Jack left Diane thirty years ago
The world is spinning too fast for you and me
So tell me whatever happened to the American dream
This ain’t the same summer song that you used to know
So baby, let's live and die before we're getting old
You know that nothing is the way it used to be
So tell me whatever happened to the American dream
Na na na...
We we were born to run, Cali here we come
Gettin' out of here, baby
Let's get out of here
This ain’t the same summer song that you used to know

NOTHING IS THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE.
This is the American Dream, the idea that nothing is the way it used to be. In songs and movies, the American Dream is glamorized, like the technology we have today, like the possessions we own. The American Dream is supposed to mean much more than it does today. American isn't supposed to be a fat, lazy, poor and unable to take care of the citizens that belong to it. How did this happen? How did such an iconic dream change so much, why had it turned into something to lust after? Did the dream ever really exist?
WHAT DID THE AMERICAN DREAM LOOK LIKE IN THE ROARING 20'S?
In 1920, American went through an irreversible change. Technology was improved, neighborhoods and cities as we know today began to appear and the idea of what it was to be American was very different. Women stayed home. The idea of having a job as a women in the 20's was positively laughable, and the stereotype of a typical american housewife wasn't too far off the mark. Females cleaned, took care of the young children, sewed, did the laundry, went shopping and most importantly, they were responsible for their husbands. Before her man returned, a mom would get the children from school, have them all dressed up and clean, ready to impress their father As soon as the big, strong leader of the house returned after a hard day of work, the typical happy housewife would be wearing a dress, ready to be at her husband's beck and whim. The children would be charming and sweet. She would have his dinner ready, a change of clothes and perhaps even a warm cloth to put on his neck. A man was in complete dominance of the house, and what he said goes.

WHAT DOES THE AMERICAN DREAM LOOK LIKE TODAY?
Of course, the main consensus of the Dream is very similar, and has barely changed at all even to today. The idea of The American Dream is to prosper. However, the American Dream in the 20's was rather less complicated than it is today. 90 or so years ago, during the 20's, the main aim was to please the man of the house. As our society matures, the government and people alike have realized that women are just as valuable and capable of making life decisions as men are. Feminism changed. Technology began to pop up everywhere, from companies like IBM, microsoft and Apple. Suddenly, an online world(LINK) was created, where you could be anyone, even yourself if you were brave enough. The computer came out and everyone had to have one. The cell phone was created and everyone need that too. Next it was a Mac, then a smartphone, then artificial technology, IPads, IPhones, Galaxies, Laptops, Androids and Google Glasses. In the 20's, even though the American Experience was flawed and shallow, it was at the very least about a person. The American Dream revolved around the men alive in that decade. Now, the American Dream has gotten even worse. It craves attention, posessions(LINK) and sucks your time away. As society changes and grows, so does the idea of the American Dream. But the Dream does not always change for the better, and usually it's for the worst.
